Woodside Residential Design Guidelines

Arnold Mammarella assisted the Town of Woodside update its residential design guidelines for site planning and building design. Arnold contributed text and illustrations to the effort and consulted with staff and the community subcommittee on the direction of residential guidelines for Woodside’s rural and wildfire interface setting. Arnold worked with Alexandra Martynetz on project illustrations.

Site planning and building design focused on conserving the rural and natural environment and preserving the town’s rural character. Fire safety and environment/green considerations were included in addition to aesthetic issues. Visually defining rural architecture and making sure that buildings are design and sited to be subordinate to the natural environment were important points for site planning and building illustrations. Illustrations shown include case study examples on differing site conditions. Each shows a different but distinctively rural approach to building design related to the use of form and massing, visual composition, and materials and detailing.

A few examples of illustrations provided for the effort are shown here.
