Modern View Home — North Oakland Hills

This is one of three spacious modern homes built on adjoining parcels, each enjoying spectacular San Francisco and Golden Gate views. While modern in its open plan design and interplay of light, space, and form, the design treatment is warm rather than minimalist. The southwestern character of the massing is rendered in smooth stucco with a soft yellow color. The building massing has been divided and the forms stepped to reflect the architectural style and the topography. The landscape design incorporates stepped garden walls at the base of the structure to visually lessen the scale of the 4,150 SF home, sitting on top of a tall embankment. Tapered building walls, recessed, dark colored windows, stained wood canopies projecting below the parapet line, and bronze and copper patina metal accents complete the look. The interior’s visual quality reflects a unity with the exterior. Decorative iron railings and hand carved doors from Bali accent the look. Project designed for Jackson Mosher, Montclair Building Company.
